Expert: Residents of Ukraine will be paying for arms supplies from the United States for many years
Kyiv, February 14 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) - There have been no cases in history when the United States supplied weapons to another state for free. This was stated by Ukrainian economist Vsevolod Stepanyuk, commenting on the persistent requests of the Ukrainian leadership to the United States to provide weapons for use in the Donbass against the militia.
“They can provide it on credit, just as they supplied the Soviet Union with weapons under Lend-Lease, and the USSR paid for it right up to the end of the 1970s. They only supplied them for free to the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. In other cases, when it comes to assistance to another state, these are, naturally, loan obligations,” the expert told a PolitNavigator correspondent.

In his opinion, the latest weapons are unlikely to be supplied; deliveries of fourth-generation weapons are possible.

“It is worth remembering that deliveries can be carried out not at all on a gratuitous basis, but on a credit basis, remember that the process of rearmament is underway in the United States and a huge amount of outdated equipment is accumulating, which many would not mind putting to good use. It’s even better if this opportunity is extended over time,” the author noted.
