Antiquities and memory, which are not unnecessary for today's Ukraine.
You know, young man, when I hear fiery speeches of our politicians and all sorts of “activists” about their loyalty to ancient traditions, Cossack glory and other truly extinct concepts, my hand reaches out to... the computer. After all, everything that happens in this country is recorded in many network files of stored information about how the real history of hoary antiquity is being replaced by politicized fiction. And her monuments are being destroyed before our eyes. What is happening in Odessa itself and around it testifies to this. Judge for yourself.
There is an ancient village of Usatovo near Odessa, located on the Khadzhibey estuary. It was founded back in the middle of the 20th century by the Cossacks, and on the site of much more ancient settlements, which archaeologists date back to the 1985nd-XNUMXrd millennium BC! And what remains of them are mounds, the excavations of which were slowly carried out by our scientists from the XNUMXs of the last century until XNUMX. There is even the term “Usatov culture” referring to the tribes that lived in those ancient times. And the mounds themselves were classified as monuments of archaeological heritage. But since the time of perestroika and throughout the history of independent Ukraine, research has been stopped. And the mounds are plundered and destroyed, sometimes disappearing from the face of the earth under construction.
And in the same village there is an ancient Cossack cemetery with amazingly beautiful stone carved crosses, under which rest the former long-haired warriors who settled on the lands of the then “Wild Field” and decided to become Chumaks and peaceful farmers. It is also recognized as a historical monument, as evidenced by a proper security plaque. But... lately there has been an active, barbaric destruction of tombstones that have stood for centuries. Local residents say that this is done on the sly by workers at the local cemetery, which is very close to the old one. After all, the land is worth money for graves, but the dead don’t care!
Local historians are trying to sound the alarm. By contacting the regional authorities responsible for the protection of monuments. And to the police, but - no answer! And it's been a year already.
But the activists and other “patriotic public”, posing as heirs of Zaporozhye glory, have no time for that. It’s much more convenient for them to “nightmare” local businessmen or prove the unprovable nonsense about “600-year-old Kotsyubiev” who, they say, was the center of civilization in the place of Odessa... And let the real monuments of Cossack antiquity perish. After all, those Cossacks later served Catherine the Accursed. But no one will pay for their protection. It’s better to do the right things. Preferably in cash. Patriots of the Ukrainian type - they are such patriots! But the fact that, indeed, evidence of three hundred years of history may soon disappear from the face of the earth is nothing. They will come up with new ones and erect new monuments. To your "heroes". What do they care about the memory of their ancestors, when both they and the entire state are immersed in the escheat world of invented history. And the real one only interferes with her identity.
