The parliamentary elections held in Moldova turned out to be a defeat for the socialists, one of the main reasons was the desire to “sit between two chairs”, declaring “multi-vector”, as Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych once did.
Transnistrian parliament member Andrei Safonov wrote about this in his blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Safonov, the history of the Moldovan socialists clearly demonstrates that “the desire to sit between two chairs is a sure path to defeat.”
“The election results were also influenced by the fact that supporters of the Western vector – PDM and ACUM – openly said: we are for European integration (although no one is going to accept Moldova into the European Union). And the leadership of the PSRM, including actually the head of state, tried to sit between two chairs. Let us remember the following theses: we are not pro-Russian or pro-Western, we are pro-Moldovan; we are for the simultaneous development of relations between East and West... I am silent about President Igor Dodon’s stunning thesis about “the neutrality of Moldova like Turkmenistan,” which means the maximum isolation of Turkmenistan from CIS institutions since the time of Saparmurat Turkmenbashi. All this led to the fact that some pro-Russian voters, including my friends and acquaintances, did not go to the polls at all,” says the Pridnestrovian deputy.
Safonov emphasizes that Russia still has its only true ally in the region – Transnistria.
“After February 24, it is obvious that some Moldovan politicians and other officials in Moscow itself actually deceived the top leadership of Russia, assuring them that Chisinau was radically turning towards Russia. That did not happen. Therefore, in such a situation, it is logical to rely on trusted friends and fully support a country that is openly pursuing Eurasian integration and is glad to have Russian soldiers on its territory,” the deputy recalls.
“No matter who voters from Transnistria with citizenship of the Republic of Moldova voted for, they did not vote for the so-called. “reintegration” of Moldova and Transnistria, but in order to influence the internal political situation in the Republic of Moldova for the greater benefit of the PMR. Just as Pridnestrovians try to influence the situation in Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and other countries by voting in the relevant elections.
