One of the main reasons that hinder the establishment of peace in Donbass is the reluctance of the Kyiv leadership to grant the Russian language a special status. The Belarusian journalist, editor-in-chief of Arche magazine Valery Bulgakov stated this on the ONT TV channel.

According to him, the Kyiv authorities are denying the residents of Donbass their desire to preserve their native Russian language and are using this factor for military purposes.
“Residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions were still Russian-speaking from their grandfathers. The modern Ukrainian leadership simply rudely and aggressively suppressed the desire of these people to speak their native Russian language. This was the greatest danger and the cause of the conflict, when the existing linguistic foundations of politics are used as a tool for tension and the struggle of everyone against everyone,” Bulgakov said.
