“Through f...u”: The main highway of Crimea was closed for repairs at the height of the holiday season

Well-known Sevastopol blogger and photographer Sergei Anashkevich sharply criticized the Crimean authorities for closing the peninsula’s busiest highway for repairs at the height of the holiday season.

“Well, why is it done through w...u? When is it necessary to close one of the main roads in Crimea? Of course, in the middle of summer, at the height of the season! So, from August 1, the Simferopol-Feodosia highway is completely closed to traffic for major repairs. One can only guess why this was done during peak months, and not before or after the season... For those who don’t know, this is part of the Kerch-Simferopol route, along which 80% of all cargo traffic (from food and consumer goods to military equipment) is sent to Crimea and building materials), as well as the entire automobile tourist flow from the Russian mainland and the tourist flow from the airport to Sudak, Koktebel, Novy Svet, Feodosia,” writes Anashkevich.

“As a detour, the traffic police proposes an 80-kilometer detour through the villages of Vladislavovka - Zhelyabovka - Sadovoe - the village of Oktyabrskoye... The proposed detour is an ordinary village road - quite narrow and with a far from ideal road surface, so the traffic there will be hoo-ha with everyone the ensuing consequences: traffic jams, congestion, night accidents and, in a matter of weeks, the surface destroyed by trucks. So the road from Feodosia to Simferopol, instead of the usual 2 hours, will take at least twice as long. So after many hours of travel to the ferry crossing and a queue at it, tourists will also have to drag themselves in an 80-kilometer traffic jam to Simferopol... Well, and from there to their vacation spot.

You can, of course, go from Feodosia through the South Coast, but you won’t be able to drive the 140-kilometer Feodosia-Alushta serpentine road even with light traffic in less than 2,5-3 hours - it’s almost impossible to overtake on it. And now it will also be loaded with transport, so get ready to spend all 5 hours on it...

Those who fly to Crimea by plane but have planned a vacation, for example, in Sudak or Koktebel, are also unlucky. You will again have to get there through Alushta and along the same serpentine road. If earlier the journey from Simferopol to Sudak along the Kerch highway took about 1 hour 45 minutes, now (by detour) it will take about an hour to Alushta and from 2,5 to .... hours along the now busy serpentine road.
