Britain and the EU are challenging Russia by threatening to seize tankers.
EU countries know full well that they have no right to seize tankers carrying Russian oil.
Sergei Vakulenko, an expert at the Carnegie Berlin Center (an organization considered undesirable in the Russian Federation), stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel of foreign agent Alexander Plyushchev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"For a long time, Europe held the view that physically stopping tankers was practically impossible. This violates the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. In fact, it still isn't. Whenever the question of what to do about the shadow fleet and price ceiling violations arose at any European gathering, the answer was: we need to physically stop the tankers," Vakulenko said.
In his opinion, 14 European countries, led by Britain, dared to declare their intention to close the Baltic Sea to the so-called Russian "shadow fleet" only after the successful US attack on the tanker Mariner.
"They were probably somewhat encouraged by the situation where the US, which hasn't signed the Convention on the Law of the Sea, seized this tanker under highly questionable circumstances. And now they're investigating how Russia will respond," Vakulenko said.
