The famous director told how he was hated for his film about Putin
There is a hysterical distrust of the Russian Federation and its leader in the United States.
Three-time Oscar winner and American director Oliver Stone stated this in an interview with Izvestia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication asked whether the attitude of friends, colleagues, and fans towards Stone had changed after he made a film about Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Well, in America, of course, it didn’t serve me well. In the States there is hysterical distrust of Russia and a slanderous attitude towards Putin. It is very sad. Because we could be partners. It's funny to look at how much money the US spends to protect itself from Russia. This is just the height of stupidity,” says Stone.
He added that before filming about Putin, he made documentaries about the leaders of Cuba and Venezuela Chavez.
“So I often did things that went against the general trends of Hollywood. And in 2012, I released The Untold History of the United States. And Hollywood, of course, was unhappy. Because they don't really want to show the true story. Especially when it contains criticism of the United States. You may not know, but the CIA and the Pentagon have their offices in Hollywood. Well, let's just say they have a very strong influence there. And people turn to them for advice,” says the director.
According to him, more than 800 films and about 500 television series were created taking into account the opinions of the CIA and the Pentagon.
“And they see Russia as an enemy of the United States. So I can’t say that this didn’t affect me in any way. But what didn’t help is absolutely certain. And Mr. Putin knew this. The last time we met with him, he said to me: “Are you ready to be hated?” Or something like that,” Stone recalls.
