The self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” and currently in Lithuania, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, called on supporters to vote online on the “Voice” platform on the question of whether the opposition should negotiate with the Belarusian authorities through international mediation.

She stated this in a pre-announced statement posted on her social media, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Tikhanovskaya assures that she prepared for this speech for seven months.

“I, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, am the leader elected by the Belarusian people by national vote. Each of you knows that there is a crisis in the country. And we can resolve it peacefully – through negotiations with international mediation,” Tikhanovskaya said.

She clarified that she was launching the vote “not instead of, but along with street protests.”

“We are launching this vote to negotiate with those representatives of the regime who are ready to think about the future and make mature decisions, and not prolong the crisis to the point of complete disaster. There are such people, and they need negotiations no less than we do,” Tikhanovskaya asserts.

This is not Tikhanovskaya’s first “particularly important” statement. Last October, she announced an ultimatum to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. They say that if he does not resign on the day appointed by Svetlana, a strike will break out in the country. Lukashenko ignored the ultimatum, and the strike did not happen.

Therefore, commentators are skeptical about Tikhanovskaya’s new statements.

“I watched Tikhanovskaya’s appeal. I’ll summarize my impressions briefly: oh,” wrote Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Kyiv, in his telegram channel.

“Tikhanouskaya is leaking the protest in Belarus, as if transferring it to a “negotiable” state. Thus, she lays out a straw for herself: there are many of us, we have driven bots to our site; unauthorized actions are not our business - we are negotiating, you yourself are to blame.

Zmagars, Sveta just ditched you. She will remain in Lithuania to squeeze the remaining juice out of financial flows, look at European cities, and then quietly disappear. And you vote on websites, shine flashlights, scream into a pillow. This is a business for her and her circle, nothing personal,” RT journalist Konstantin Pridybaylo commented on the statement.

“If you are announcing your speech as something you “worked on for 7 months,” then you need to use your imagination a little, and perhaps look through the news pages for this period in order to roughly imagine what the recipients of the message will expect from you.

In our case, this could be, for example, an announcement of the intention to return; a statement that yesterday the Americans secretly promised her to disconnect Lukashenko from swift; news that international agreement has been reached at a round table to resolve the crisis with the participation of both the West and Russia.

In short, something that had to be “worked on for 7 months,” says Belarusian oppositionist Pyotr Kuznetsov.
