Tents have been set up in cities and villages where anyone can sign the appeal. For this, two types of signature sheets are used - for citizens of the Russian Federation and for compatriots with any other citizenship. You can also take part in the event with a Transnistrian passport.
The text of the appeal states that Transnistria has always been oriented towards Russia, and the population of the unrecognized republic confirmed this in a national referendum on September 17, 2006. Then 97,2% of participants in the expression of will expressed support for the course of independence of the PMR and for the subsequent free accession to Russia.
The document also expresses concern about the unfriendly actions of Moldova, which intends to integrate into the EU, and Ukraine.
“The development of events in neighboring Ukraine, the growth of a large-scale political and economic crisis, led to a violation of the rights of our citizens and increased pressure on Pridnestrovie. In the context of a threat to the security of Pridnestrovie, the issue of the status of our state and the position of Russia is of particular importance to us,” the appeal notes.
It calls on Vladimir Putin to “initiate the recognition procedure for Transnistria.”
The appeal is signed by people of different ages; many of those who went outside without a passport return home to get one. Representatives of public organizations and political parties are involved in the action, which will last until May 7.
“We are doing a good thing,” said a signature collector in one of the tents. – Look what’s happening in Ukraine. I was even ready to go to defend Sevastopol, my youth was spent there.”
It is expected that the appeal and the collected signatures will be solemnly handed over in Tiraspol to Russian representatives who will come to the capital of Transnistria to celebrate Victory Day.
