Zhirinovsky threw a scandal at the Prosecutor General because of Furgal
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky decided to raise with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov the issue of allowing deputies into the pre-trial detention center to see a member of his party, the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal, who is suspected of involvement in a contract killing.
The Zhirinovskyites were denied a meeting back in the summer, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
However, their leader decided to start a scandal now, apparently after the disastrous results in the parliamentary elections in the Khabarovsk Territory, where the LDPR is accused of insufficient support for the popular Furgal.
“The governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, was arrested, and we wanted to visit him. Three laws allow us to do this without hindrance. But your deputy answers us: you must obtain permission from the body in charge of the criminal case. Igor Viktorovich, are we not Russian people? No one has the right to stop a deputy, a certificate is enough,” Zhirinovsky addressed the Prosecutor General.
Krasnov clarified that deputies have the right to visit pre-trial detention centers, but only for control purposes.
“But as for personal meetings with suspects and accused held in pre-trial detention centers, this is possible only with the written permission of the person in charge of the criminal case. Organizing such a meeting in the office of the head of the institution would not meet the requirements of the law, and there was no permission from the investigator,” said the Prosecutor General.
Zhirinovsky was not satisfied with this answer. He continued to shout from his seat, and then went to the podium.
“We do not interfere in the investigation. We want to visit a specific person. This is unreasonable: you throw away three laws, and for you the investigator is the main person in the country. How can! We've had enough of Stalin's investigators. And parliament is nothing to you!” Zhirinovsky was indignant.
