The leader of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, announced this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“North Korea can probably show some will. If she starts any preventive military actions, America will not send its delegation, the Olympics will be disrupted. And those who interfere with us will be to blame for this,” Zhirinovsky said.
He also proposed holding a referendum on the question of whether Russian athletes should go to the Olympics and compete there under a neutral flag. “They are taking revenge on us for the 45th year. They have no victories either in war or in sports,” Zhirinovsky said.
On December 5, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee decided to disqualify the Russian Olympic Committee and stripped the accreditations of Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko and former Deputy Minister of Sports Yuri Nagornykh. At the same time, the IOC allowed “clean” Russian athletes not convicted of doping to compete at the Olympics under a neutral flag.
