Earthquake in Romania reached Odessa region

Izmail, September 11 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – An earthquake occurred in the southwest of the Odessa region, the epicenter of which is in the Romanian Vrancea zone at a depth of 107 km.

Here, the magnitude of the tremors was 4,7 points, said the head of the seismological station at the Odessa Construction Academy, Konstantin Egupov.

The tremors were recorded by seismic station equipment, after which local specialists contacted their foreign colleagues. The earthquake was felt most in the southwest of the region, which is located close to the epicenter of the natural phenomenon. In particular, the tremors were felt by residents of Izmail, which is separated from the Romanian zone by the Danube.

The vibrations were mainly felt in multi-storey buildings, where dishes clanked, chandeliers and furniture swayed, the publication “Route E-95” reported.

Such tremors occur constantly in the region, but there is no reason to panic, Egupov assured. According to him, earthquakes speak of processes that are not yet seismically dangerous, but in the future may affect Odessa. Over time, they can cause an increase in the magnitude of earthquakes to 7-8 points, the expert predicts. Because of this, residents of the region are encouraged to build high-quality houses, as well as strengthen old buildings.
