Zelensky will have to choose between East and West
The newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and his team are aimed at continuing the Russophobic policy, and soon they will have to declare this openly.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik spoke about this on the TopInform YouTube channel, as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Zelensky’s team understands and feels that the electorate of the South and East of Ukraine is temporary for them. These are people who, for the most part, voted not for Zelensky, but against Poroshenko; it was a protest vote.
Therefore, they initially focus more on the electorate of the center and West of Ukraine. And strategically, they understand that there they have a better chance of retaining the electorate for parliamentary, and in the future for local elections. In addition, Zelensky’s team today is deformed. It is filled with people who have pronounced, and sometimes even radical, pro-Western and anti-Russian views.
And since Zelensky himself still speaks very little today, he does not yet have powers, parliamentary conclusions are just around the corner, he needs to maintain silence, create intrigue so that everyone fills his image with their own meanings,” the expert noted.
However, according to Ruslan Bortnik, soon Vladimir Zelensky will have to choose between East and West.
“The language law is a political technology aimed, first of all, against Zelensky. Her first motive is to create a crisis for Zelensky and immediately lead him into the corridor of a language conflict. It is clear that this law will cause criticism from Hungary, Romania and European organizations. Whose problem will it be? It is clear that it is not Poroshenko, but Zelensky.
And Zelensky faces a choice - either accept this criticism, repeal this law, and lose the electorate in Western Ukraine, rather than free up the electoral field for Pyotr Alekseevich and similar political forces.
Or not accept this criticism, be accused of disrupting European integration, which Hungary will continue to block, lose the electorate in the East of Ukraine, because they will say: “Zelensky, are you normal? Look, which law is wrong, it needs to be changed.” Lose opportunities for dialogue with Crimea and Donbass, where they will generally say: “Look, everything that the Russian media have told us since 2014 that they will ban speaking in their native language is true, they have come to this.” They are trying to put him on hold, to force him to choose between the West and East of Ukraine,” the expert added.
