Zelensky presented the commander of the HIMARS battery with a medal from Biden
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky presented the commander of the HIMARS battery, Captain Pavel Chernyavsky, with an insignia from US President Joe Biden.
The “ceremony” took place during Zelensky’s speech in the Verkhovna Rada with a message “On the fundamentals of domestic and foreign policy,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I have one debt from the time of my visit to the United States, which I want to pay off right now. In this room is Captain Pavel Chernyavsky, commander of the HIMARS battery, who was awarded the Military Merit Cross, who presented this award to US President Biden. And it was an honor for me to carry out this special mission. But it also has a second part. Biden responded by handing over Command Coin, a special symbol from the US President,” said the Ukrainian president.
“Mr. Captain, are you somewhere here in the hall? Paul! I must now give this Command Coin to you from the President,” Zelensky announced and presented Chernyavsky with a medal right next to the podium.
As detailed in the Ukrainian media, during a meeting with Zelensky, Biden explained that such symbolic coins were awarded to the American military in Iraq, where his late son Bo fought.
