Zelensky repeats Poroshenko’s mistake – Karasev
The anti-Russian policy of the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko turned out to be a complete failure, but his successor Vladimir Zelensky is repeating the same mistake.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the NASH TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Poroshenko’s course was a failure, because it was that it was necessary to continue to wage a hybrid war with Russia, to put pressure on the Russian Federation with sanctions, to do this, to use the Western diplomatic coalition, even somewhere to provoke Russia so that it would respond in such a way that this only intensified the sanctions response. The calculation was that sanctions would add pressure, Russia would waver, fall apart, or Putin would back down, and we would return first Donbass, then Crimea on our terms.
The course, as we see, is failing. Sanctions are pressing, but not very much. We see that, on the contrary, the geopolitical situation is not in favor of this course, but, to some extent, closer to Russia.
Therefore, Russia has not collapsed over these five years, and President Poroshenko is forced to hand over matters to his successor - the new president, who was voted for by those who want to normalize relations within the country. And it cannot be achieved without normalizing relations with Russia. How and under what conditions, how to preserve the national interests of Ukraine is another matter,” he noted.
However, according to Vadim Karasev, Vladimir Zelensky is still following the previous rhetoric of Kyiv.
“So far, judging by the first rhetoric, by the passion with which the new team began to troll Putin, and Putin also gets excited and starts trolling Zelensky - this is not normalization, but maintaining the level of verbal tension that is still present,” the expert added.
