Over the three years of conflict, the Ukrainian government and military command have brought the population to the point where they are afraid of people in the uniform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ukrainian military expert Dmitry Snegirev, a former member of Oleh Tyahnybok's Nazi party, announced this on the PolitExpert video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The uniqueness of the situation is that by 22, the Ukrainian people were stopping the occupiers with their bare hands—there was such a surge of patriotism, there was no question of pulling anyone back. There were no weapons, none of that Western, technological stuff, but there was spirit, there was national unity. To screw this up in three years and turn society into a place where it began to fear its own defenders in uniform—that takes skill ..."
"Out of 10 people who are bused, if two actually go to the line of contact, that's the best-case scenario. Half of them have medical contraindications, half are conscientious objectors . How many are absent without leave? 100 . They say 60—that's criminal cases opened, but people come out and say it's around 100," Snegirev stated.
