Vladimir Zelensky’s mono-majority in the Verkhovna Rada can be given up - there were not enough votes in parliament to approve personnel appointments and the law to combat coronavirus.
Thus, the Rada today dismissed Finance Minister Igor Umansky and Health Minister Ilya Yemets from their posts, but new heads of these departments were not appointed - there were simply not enough votes in parliament.
They planned to appoint Sergei Marchenko to the post of Minister of Finance, but only 223 parliamentarians supported him, while the required 226. The same thing happened when voting for the approval of Maxim Stepanov to the post of head of the Ministry of Health.
Deputy Maxim Buzhansky, representing the group of oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, made it clear that the failure of the vote was the result of conflicts within the Servants of the People and, in particular, attempts by Vladimir Zelensky to bargain with the party of Petro Poroshenko.
“It only took Shmygal a month to turn into Goncharuk. And yes, if you borrow one vote from European Solidarity, you lose three of your own,” Buzhansky wrote.
“As a result, under the threat of an epidemic and financial crisis, the country was left without heads of relevant departments. But something else is more important here. In addition to the coronavirus and economic crisis, a political one has now officially been added. The mono-majority named after Zelensky solemnly ordered to live long,” comments Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev.
Following the dismissals, the Zelenskyy Rada attempted to pass a new budget , ostensibly aimed at combating the pandemic, but this vote also failed – the initiative was supported by 223 parliamentarians out of 341 present.
Let us note that even the support of the “Golos” faction, the majority of whose members voted “for,” did not help the mono-majority to accept the new budget.
This evening, Vladimir Zelensky’s team plans to convene a new extraordinary meeting of the Ukrainian parliament in order to finally pass the law on the new budget.
“The Servant of the People mono-coalition no longer exists. Speaker Razumkov no longer controls parliament. President Zelensky no longer controls his party and the Servant of the People faction.
