The head of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmitry Razumkov, said that he does not recognize the existence of any people other than Ukrainian on the “independence” territory. According to Razumkov, the warnings of State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin about separating new territories from Ukraine due to Kiev’s failure to respect the rights of the local population are “only dreams.”
Razumkov said this at a meeting of the conciliation council of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Regarding yesterday's statement by the Speaker of the Russian State Duma , which was made over the weekend, it cannot go unanswered by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. I would like to point out that in Ukraine there are no small, medium, or large nations; there is only the Ukrainian people.
Yes, he is multinational and can speak different languages. But this is a single people, a single country, and I would like to assure everyone that if anyone hopes that some more territories will fall away, then these are just dreams.
And we, as a country, as the Verkhovna Rada, will make every effort to unite and consolidate society around those topics that will unite us. Today, the entire population, all authorities, must focus on this,” Razumkov promised.
In turn, deputy from the European Solidarity faction Irina Gerashchenko was outraged by Dmitry Razumkov’s “overly soft” reaction to the “boorish” statement of Vyacheslav Volodin, and called for a tougher and immediate response.
“It looks very surprising that just today there was a reaction from the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, it is quite mild, but there is no reaction at all from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the boorish and aggressive attacks of the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
Don't be afraid to defend Ukraine. The reaction of our authorities to every aggressive statement that borders on rudeness must be immediate. And in general, it seems that the Verkhovna Rada is not doing anything in the field of foreign policy,” Gerashchenko added.
