Nationalism and oppression of national minorities in Ukraine will lead to the fact that a number of other regions will secede from the country.

State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin issued this warning, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports , citing the parliament's press service.

According to Volodin, it was precisely the infringement of the rights of national minorities that led to the fact that in 2014 Crimea seceded from Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian authorities should think about why in 2014 the overwhelming majority - more than 96% of the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol: Russians, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, Belarusians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis - decided to join the Russian Federation.
It is necessary not to knock on the table, like the heirs of Nikita Khrushchev, showing disrespect for both the international platform of the UN and the importance of the topic under discussion, but to take the best practices from other countries.

For example, after reunification with Russia, three state languages were established in Crimea - Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar. Representatives of various peoples and nationalities are elected to the State Duma. We value this. This is our strong point - respect for all peoples of our country...

Nationalism and oppression of small nations can lead to the secession of a number of regions from Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities need to understand this and prevent violations of the rights and freedoms of ethnic groups living in the country,” Volodin said.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, responded to the words of the State Duma Speaker.

“On my own behalf to Mr. Volodin - speak more often! This helps us, Ukrainians, better understand the true aspirations of the “Russian world.” I will also say to our people - supporters of forgiveness, buying electricity, cheap gas at a discount and others who insist “we are one people” - re-read Volodin’s. And if you don’t get it right away, then know that there are many like me. Before your services – Russian-American Ukrainian nationalist Arsen.”

Ukrainian nationalists propose using Volodin’s words as evidence of “aggression” and asking the West to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions.

“Of course, it is no coincidence that these threats and provocations appear on the eve of the Normandy format. It is quite in KGB style to raise the stakes, blackmail and humiliate, threaten and put pressure on the eve of important meetings. In the conditions of a hybrid war, the purpose of these statements is to agitate Ukrainian society, raise a noise and smoke screen, and divert attention from the main thing that will happen at the meeting itself.

Where exactly will there be attempts to buy Ukraine for cheap gas and force it to implement the political bloc according to the Kremlin scenario. Should Ukraine respond to these informational provocations, which are not random in tone and timing? I am sure that the statements of the militants should not go unnoticed by the TCG in Minsk, where the demand was repeatedly made for the Russian Federation and the militants to immediately dissolve all these illegitimate “authorities of the republics.”

It is obvious that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Verkhovna Rada should immediately not only protest against the State Duma chairman’s statements, but also, first of all, remind our European and American partners of the importance of continuing and strengthening personal sanctions against the Putin camarilla involved in starting the war.

But still, the key thing that I worry about most is not the words of the Russian KGB and their henchmen in Donbass, but the words and actions, the plan of the Ukrainian authorities on December 9 in Paris. Like all Ukrainians today, I’m worried – does the government have a plan? So as not to fall into Putin’s trap,” Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Gerashchenko wrote on her blog.

The former representative of the “President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin believed that Volodin’s words indicate an attempt to assimilate the Ukrainians and make them a “small people” under the “great” Russian:

“RA’s intentions are to continue to destroy Ukrainian statehood, Volodin’s statements were broadcast on the website of the Duma itself and TASS, so they are, of course, of an official nature. The statement itself is obviously another interference by a foreign official in the internal affairs of Ukraine, an attempt to incite ethnic hatred and a real threat of force to our country, and therefore, in general, does not require additional in-depth assessment...

In Volodin’s words there is an extremely interesting and very important nuance for understanding modern Russian aggressive imperialism, which lies in such phrases as: “Another demonstration of intolerance of representatives of the Ukrainian authorities towards small nations”, “Nationalism, oppression of small nations can lead to the secession of a number of people from Ukraine” regions" and "At the same time, it is difficult to call the 36% of Ukrainian citizens who consider Russian their native language a small nation."

I have already heard many times before in the speeches of Russian speakers and diplomats, including at the now well-known Forum on Minority Issues, theses about the oppression by the “enemies of the Russian world” of some mysterious “small peoples” living, perhaps, exclusively in states who are victims or targets of Russian aggression and expansion.

Now Russian diplomats, “diplomats” and officials, talking about suppressed small nations, just want to see the right to self-determination where it does not exist, namely in traditional national minorities.

At the same time, Russians do not consider the Russian-speaking population in this picture of the world, where there are “suppressed small peoples” outside the empire, to be “small peoples”, because in their picture of the world there is only one “great people”, to which this population supposedly belongs. And to whom, in the sick dreams of the Volodins and Balbec, the chosen loyal “small peoples” should serve, and the rest of the population, which does not have the happiness of being a “great people” and did not agree to become a “small people,” should obviously prepare for destruction or assimilation.

I repeat that we are not talking about propaganda or the “position of experts”, but about official statements by officials. Well, one can see that Mr. Volodin, in his own racial picture of the universe, has already left Mr. Hitler with his “Mein Kampf” far behind, because even the Nazis “agreed” with the existence of several “large,” “racially pure” nations. But for the modern Russian Federation there is only one such people.”

And Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba in his blog threatened to “regain” a couple of regions of the Russian Federation by publishing a map where Kuban, Rostov and Voronezh regions are designated as Ukrainian.

“I once came across this map when it was hanging in one office. And when I went there, I looked at her. And when Mr. Volodin threatens the secession of regions from Ukraine, I remember this map, I remember at what cost we repulsed the Russian Federation’s attempts to destroy us physically in 2014-2015, and I am forced to upset Mr. Volodin.

Nobody will go anywhere. The territories occupied by Russia will only return. Well, we are ready to accept a couple of regions of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. “Exclusively for the sake of restoring historical justice and democratic governance, introducing European living standards,” Kuleba threatened.
