Russian musician Garik Sukachev confused Deutsche Welle journalists, who, when recording the interview, clearly expected to hear criticism of the authorities, but the guest spoke in support of Vladimir Putin.
The interviewer recalled that Sukachev had previously criticized the government of Dmitry Medvedev and asked about the assessment of the new Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin. The musician responded by saying that not enough time had passed to evaluate the work of the new ministers.
When it came to the upcoming referendum on the Constitution, including, among other things, the possibility of Putin’s re-election, Sukachev generally began to voice something that was clearly not what was expected in the West.
“Is now the time for Putin to leave during the pandemic? Do you even think that there is a third world war going on now? It is coming, it’s just that now with the invention of atomic weapons it is impossible to make a total war. Any war is about economics, first of all, and not about the fact that this one is bad, let’s go to war against him.
Do they change horses midstream? Probably not. We are only at the beginning of this political-economic process. And nothing good in this sense awaits us or the whole world in the near future... I’m not ready to say responsibly now, because we are now at a time when no president should change,” Sukachev said.
According to him, many in the West envy the people of Russia because of such a president.
“What I heard from ordinary people both in Italy and in Holland, I won’t speak for the Baltic states, there are a lot of Russians living there, but if we talk about foreigners with whom I have communicated over the past decades, these are people of different professions, for example a motorcyclist, a teacher in university, the third delivers buns, the fourth is a sailor - people of different social strata, and from so many people I heard exactly what “Putin is your best president.”
In general, the president of any country is not a girl, he has no task to please anyone. The president of any country has only one primary task - to do everything so that the people in his country, conditionally, have guarantees of the future. Moreover, am I happy with Putin here? Of course not. I’m not very happy with my wife either. The president of the country didn’t go fishing with me,” said the musician.
“But you didn’t choose him?” – asked the journalist.
“I chose, once - yes,” Sukachev answered.
He clarified that he is calm about the fact that Russia is often criticized in the West.
“I am Russian, a representative of that very deep Russian pillar, I don’t know whether my ancestors were on the Kulikovo Field or not, I want to believe that they were. Therefore, of course, I am for the Russian people,” said the musician.
“The image of Russia has never been good, I am rather indifferent to this. Due to the fact that all Western countries do not realize the main thing that Russia is not a country, Russia is a civilization. Putin repeated me, I have said this many times.
Russia, one way or another, will always be the talk of the town, always, given that it is the largest country in the world, given that it is the only country in the world in which the entire periodic table is concentrated, we have all the mineral resources that are in everything world,” added Sukachev.
