The West needs China to limit cooperation with Russia, moreover, to put political pressure on it. But then China would become an instrument of someone else's game. He will not agree to this, because it would damage his reputation in the international arena. Beijing will be ready to play the role of a mediator if the warring parties themselves are inclined to do so.
