The UN General Assembly adopted another anti-Russian resolution, in which it called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Crimea, as well as to return the weapons of the ships recently transferred to the Ukrainian Navy.

A document titled "The Problem of Militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as Parts of the Black and Azov Seas" was adopted at today's meeting of the organization, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The resolution was sponsored by 39 states. As reported in the blog of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN, 63 members voted for the resolution, 19 voted against.

At the same time, it is tactfully silent about the fact that 66 states abstained from voting.

According to the Ukrainian representative office, the main provisions of the resolution are as follows:

“The demand for the Russian Federation as an occupying state to withdraw its troops from the Crimean Peninsula and stop the temporary occupation of the territory of Ukraine. A call to the Russian Federation to return military equipment and weapons seized from three ships of the Ukrainian Navy “Berdyansk”, “Nikopol” and “Yany Kapu”...

Condemnation of the activities of the Russian Federation in conducting military exercises in Crimea and concern about the use of military enterprises seized by it.

Focus on misuse of nuclear infrastructure on the Ukrainian peninsula. Recommendation to foreign states, international organizations and institutions to refrain from visits to the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol without agreement with Ukraine.”

According to Ukrainian political scientist Alexei Golobutsky, this resolution, which was adopted during the Normandy Four summit in Paris, will supposedly help Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky justify his reluctance to compromise on Donbass.

“This is right during the Normandy Four negotiations in Paris. A good background, I must admit. Like the mass protests in Kyiv, it creates a fairly strong rear for Zelensky. That is, the President of Ukraine can already refer not only to the disagreement of his citizens to capitulate to Russia, but also to the unequivocal position of the UN. And if France and Germany try to talk about deals with Putin, you can and should immediately point out that this directly contradicts the UN resolution,” Golobutsky argues in his blog.

It is noteworthy that fewer and fewer member states support anti-Russian resolutions in the UN.

Thus, during the vote in mid-November, Ukraine was supported by 67 states, almost a year ago the number of supporters reached 70 countries, and on March 27, 2014, 100 of the 193 UN members voted for the anti-Russian resolution.
