“South-East of Ukraine is coming under Putin’s control” – political scientist
Local elections, which will be held in October, threaten Ukraine with the fact that at least in the south-east of the country, regional, city and village councils will be occupied by supporters of Russia.
This was stated on air by Valentin Bushansky, chief researcher at the ethnopolitical department of the Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies, on Channel 4 television, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They need to implement the same scheme that was implemented back when Crimea became autonomous. Elections, creation of legitimate bodies of self-government, co-optation into Ukraine, federalization of Ukraine. That is, these are not just Donetsk and Lugansk regions, these are autonomous Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Autonomous status, expansion of local powers and federalization. That is, Ukraine should receive autonomous entities within its composition.
However, further: what will Kharkov say to this, what will Nikolaev region, Dnepropetrovsk region say to this? And now, we have local elections, and a party is coming forward that says “we’re brothers,” “what’s the difference,” “but we’re locals here, and why should they tell us from Kiev,” Bushansky lamented.
“Don’t you think that the local elections on the 25th will be the beginning of a victory at the regional level for the entire fifth column? – asked Lvov Russophobe TV presenter Ostap Drozdov. – We are talking about plus or minus a third of the territory. This is mainly the South-East, where the fifth column enters all councils, takes mayoral positions, takes a majority in the city, rural, regional and so on. In fact, they are securing political hegemony in these regions affected by pro-Russian sentiments.”
The studio guest agreed that there is such a danger.
“Because if in the same Crimea, in the same Donetsk, in the same Lugansk there weren’t such weak local councils, there weren’t such mayors, for example, like that Trukhanov in Odessa, Kernes in Kharkov, then it would be different , moreover, nothing would have happened at all. The opposition platform “For Life” of Vladimir Putin is absolutely pro-Russian. And I want people in Kharkov, in Dnieper, in Zaporozhye, in Odessa to hear: these people will bring traitors into your regional and city councils who will bring you war, crisis and devastation. It will be the same as in Donbass,” added Bushansky.
