Yanukovych: Did not lead the protest movement due to the threat of being killed
Moscow - Kyiv, February 21 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - The fugitive President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said that he could lead the protest movement, but did not return to the country, since he would probably be killed.
Yanukovych said this in an interview with the Russian Channel One.

“I won’t hide the fact that I sent people to Ukraine who, as they say, monitored the situation, and even now we are monitoring it. I won’t hide the fact that I couldn’t get this thought out of my head - to return and first lead the protest movement, and then to take some part in protecting those people who found themselves in this situation. But everyone who took part came to the unequivocal opinion: if I only appear, former opponents, and now enemies, not only mine, but, I believe, the Ukrainian people in general, will do everything to destroy me. And all my comrades were categorically against my going to Ukraine. I was dissuaded from asking these questions. And events developed very quickly and, as they say, it was impossible to find this window. I regret that I could not do this,” the ex-president said.
At the same time, Yanukovych believes that he could still bring benefits to Ukraine.
“But, as they say, the Lord God left me alive, probably I am needed for something. And if we talk about today and the future, as soon as the opportunity arises to return, I will return and do everything in my power to make life easier in Ukraine,” says the politician twice defeated by the Maidan.
