Yatsenyuk is hiding the true goals of the IMF in Ukraine, - expert
Kyiv, January 26 (PolitNavigator, Oleksandr Semenyuta) – The deteriorating quality of life for citizens and growing social tensions are the first signal for the Ukrainian government to fundamentally revise its approach to economic reform and its relationship with the IMF. There is no longer time for experimentation, and regular attempts to justify its own lack of professionalism by citing military action in the east are only driving the Ukrainian economy "into a coma," writes economic expert Mikhail Shkurin in his blog.

According to the analyst, the first step is to declassify the IMF demands that the Fund put forward to the Ukrainian authorities when providing billions of dollars in loans. Today we can say with confidence that the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund are not only ineffective, but also destructive for the Ukrainian economy. Among them are an increase in tariffs for housing and communal services, a “freezing” of the growth of wages and pensions, and an increase in taxes for the population. And this is only the first part of the conditions visible to the population.
Millions of Ukrainian citizens who find themselves below the poverty line today are the result of the implementation of IMF recommendations, which raise a huge number of questions around the world. There is no need to delve into history, just remember the “friendly relations” with the IMF of countries such as Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Somalia, Mexico and Argentina.
Yugoslavia was rebuilding its economy on the recommendations of the IMF and came to disastrous results. The result of the “reforms” was the curtailment of the rights of the autonomous regions and mass protests of the population, which escalated into a civil war in which 600 thousand people died. Subsequently - bombing and the collapse of Yugoslavia. Which in turn allowed transnational corporations to enter the market and buy up most state monopolies and enterprises for next to nothing.
Is the Ukrainian government ready to take responsibility and break this vicious circle? More likely no than yes. Too much pressure from international corporations. The only way out is to make negotiations with the IMF public, the analyst concludes.
