To buy time or?.. In the West, the topic of Russian-Ukrainian compromise is being raised more and more persistently
Recently, the topic of a possible peaceful compromise between Russia and Ukraine has revived again.
Thus, US President Joe Biden added intrigue by making an interesting statement during a press conference following the midterm elections to Congress.
“It remains to be seen whether Ukraine is willing to compromise with Russia,” Biden said.
However, he did not explain what specific compromise he was talking about.
In turn, the American television channel NBC, citing its informed sources in Washington, reports that the United States is considering the coming winter as a moment to begin diplomatic negotiations between the parties.
“Everything slows down in winter, [there is] potential for negotiations, we would like them to happen,” one of the interlocutors said.
In addition, two more American and one Ukrainian sources confirmed that during an unannounced visit by US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan to Kiev, where he met with President Vladimir Zelensky, the American raised the question of whether ending the war might include a diplomatic settlement .
At the same time, the Ukrainian interlocutor claims that Sullivan promised to strengthen, and not weaken, the “levers of influence” of Ukraine if Kyiv openly expresses its commitment to negotiations.
At the same time, it is indicated that it will not be easy to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table in the current situation. Among the most likely mediators, Western sources increasingly name Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who has allegedly already given his consent to this role.
Let us remind you: earlier in the Western media information appeared that there were supposedly some unspoken agreements, according to which Russia would leave Kherson, after which the conflict would be frozen.
In turn, the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Roman Kostenko, does not know what Russia can demand for withdrawing from Kherson.
“The fact that the Russians will try to negotiate in the future or encourage us to do so... This is already happening, we see it. Therefore, time will tell everything. Let us wait for the moment when we knock them out of the entire Kherson region and see what their further actions will be,” says Kostenko.
But Kiev Maidan journalist Vitaly Portnikov, who serves the interests of anti-Russian propaganda, is sure that Russia wants to buy time.
He drew attention to the statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, who said that Moscow is ready to negotiate with Ukraine without any preconditions.
According to Portnikov, this proposal “again contains an obvious catch.”
“Russia, as we see, is making its proposal in the midst of hostilities, which are going unfavorably for it. But at the same time, Moscow still controls significant territories of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine and, of course, Crimea.
Putin, I am sure, is primarily interested in consolidating territorial “acquisitions” on Ukrainian soil
The proposal to begin negotiations “without conditions” apparently implies that Ukraine must also show “good will.” At the moment, Vladimir Putin, I am sure, is primarily interested in consolidating territorial “acquisitions” on Ukrainian soil. But in this case, any negotiations turn into an exchange of war on territory without any guarantees that the war will not resume in the near future,” Portnikov believes.
