It is reported by the press service of the Ministry.

“The Ministry of Culture officially refused to grant such approval to the Kyiv City State Administration for the action of communists on the territory of the Great Patriotic War Museum, since this contradicts the law of Ukraine “On Museums and Museum Affairs,” the message says.

The ministry recalled that Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine “On Museums and Museum Affairs” determines that a museum territory is an area allocated for a museum and belongs to lands of historical and cultural significance.

“On this territory and in museum buildings (structures), activities that contradict its functional purpose or may negatively affect the state of storage of the museum collection, and other activities that are incompatible with the activities of the museum as a cultural institution are prohibited,” the message says.

The Ministry of Culture said that on May 1, the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War will receive visitors.

“If you allow communists with red flags to gather in the center of Kyiv, then why vote for the law on decommunization of society?” Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Culture Vyacheslav Kirilenko more than openly stated the motives that guided the authorities in banning May Day.

As PolitNavigator reported, communists were banned from holding a May Day march in the center of Kyiv, on Khreshchatyk, citing the fact that events for children were being held there.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, communists in Kharkiv were also banned from holding a May Day rally.
