Vucic recalled how he and his mother almost died under NATO bombing
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has a personal motive for opposing NATO membership: he and his family suffered from bombings in 1999.

“I was the information minister at that time. I was younger then, but now I am already a mature person.
During the bombing they also hit my office. And my mother was a journalist for a state television company, and she was working that evening, she was the editor on duty.
She accidentally survived because the rocket hit the studio, which was only a few tens of meters away. In that building alone, 16 people died that night. Many children and innocent people died,” Vucic said.
According to him, the memory of the 1999 bombings forces Serbia to strictly observe military neutrality.
“That is why Serbia will not join NATO, Serbia will not join any military alliance. Serbia will protect its neutrality in military matters. We want to remain true to ourselves, defend our skies, defend our country,” Vucic said.
