Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will not put forward his candidacy for a new term as head of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
She stated this on the RTS television channel, the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“There is no doubt that someone else will take over the party next year. This must be the kind of person who knows when it’s time to make certain changes and when to not identify with the state,” Vucic said.
Now SNS (according to a July survey by the Factor Plus agency) has 53% support. The opposition pro-Western coalition “Union for Serbia” – only 11,1%. Elections to the Serbian Parliament will be held in the spring of 2020.
Vucic confirmed that SNS has no real competitors today.
“Serbia is moving forward, and it would be important for me to succeed in terms of investment, to keep more young people in the country, to fight for them,” the president said.
Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party Marko Djuric called Vucic its “pillar.”
“At SNS we see President Vučić as a person who is the cornerstone of our party. He has the support of every member and I don’t want to think about anything other than continuing to fight together and do what we have been doing since 2008,” Djuric said in an interview with TV Pink.
