Doctors Without Borders told how US aircraft bombed hospitals

Michiel Hofman, an expert on humanitarian issues of the international non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders, spoke about this in an interview with Kommersant.

“The number of attacks on hospitals increased sharply about three years ago. We understand that there cannot be a 100 percent guarantee, and doctors understand this,” says the expert. – But look: we work annually in 40-60 countries, and previously about once a year one of our hospitals was attacked. This has been happening every month for the last three years. What was out of the ordinary has become the norm not only in Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, but also in Sudan, South Sudan, and Central Africa. Everyone is talking about Syria, but fighting continues in neighboring Iraq.”

“So far, with regard to our hospitals, only two investigations have been launched - by the United States in Kunduz and Saudi Arabia in Yemen,” the source said. – In this case, we are talking only about internal investigations. And when people investigate their own activities, many questions remain. For example, at first the United States said that the strike was carried out at the request and on a tip from the Afghan military, and then in this report there was not a word about the Afghan army personnel. The question of the reason for calling the fire is completely omitted. However, the report accurately describes the hospital building and it is clear that whoever received the order attacked this particular building.”

At the same time, Hofman draws attention to the fact that among the permanent members of the UN Security Council, not only Russia, but also the USA, France and Great Britain “are today involved in conflicts in which hospitals are bombed.”
