The east of Ukraine does not want to fight with the LDPR
While in Galicia there is a positive increase in radical sentiment regarding the resolution of the conflict in Donbass, the eastern regions show a tendency in favor of finding any compromise.
Maria Zolkina, an analyst at the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She noted that, as a rule, since 2014, the majority of Ukrainian society has been in favor of a compromise solution to the conflict, while a minority, at the level of 17–20 percent, has been in favor of an aggressive option. However, by 2021 the indicators have changed.
“Over the past year and a half, there has been a certain radicalization in the western region, and for the first time since 2014, there is virtually equal support in the West for both the idea of finding compromises and the idea of a tougher position, that peace can only be achieved when one of the parties wins - 36 percent for each of these options,” Zolkina said.
At the same time, she expressed concerns about changes in opinion over the past year and a half in the East of the country.
“The focus on any compromises has grown, and now public opinion there is also focused on compromises, but in this focus there is more readiness not for selective, but specifically for any compromises. So far this change has not come to the surface in the form of any internal contradictions, so far it has not torn or split public opinion, but this is the moment that needs to be paid attention to. In this regard, we understand that we need to work particularly specifically with the East of Ukraine, which is frustrated and somewhat disappointed, in the near future,” the propagandist urged.
