Former Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kava stated this on air on the CapitalTV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The railway is now simply on the verge of technological collapse. The head of Ukrazaliznitsa resigned, but the rest of the board remained. The supervisory board, vaunted and expensive, also remained. And the company is on the verge of technological collapse.
They are trying to show profits on paper, but this profit was achieved absolutely artificially - the company, which pays top management large bonuses, has reduced costs for the repair of rolling stock, track repairs, and modernization of infrastructure in general. And due to this, she shows that she has earned money.
Although the turnover of wagons has dropped significantly, freight traffic has declined again, transit continues to decline, and the majority of locomotives and wagons are simply in a deplorable state.
Over the past year, fires on locomotives and commuter trains carrying passengers have become so commonplace that the news no longer pays attention to them.
Thanks to the safety system, which was inherited from the USSR, train collisions do not occur on the railway. And the security system, which has not been modernized since Soviet times, shows greater reliability than modern European systems,” Kava said.
