Ukraine has not yet identified its losses from the transit of Russian gas, since it has not even made an attempt to calculate them, and the agreement between Joe Biden and Angela Merkel, which talks about guarantees for Ukraine, means nothing.
Yuriy Korolchuk, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Energy Strategies, stated this in an interview on the First Cossack channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We had [for] gas transit 2 billion dollars, almost 7 billion dollars. Turkish Stream took away the main transit, one and a half billion dollars. We lost one and a half billion dollars annually. We could transit this gas for the next 3 years. 30 times 30 equals $1,5 billion. This is payment of compensation. We would understand what we are talking about.
How can we say this to those countries that do not have business relations with us? We are not business partners. Naftogaz does not work with any American transit company. Accordingly, I would call this document more like a letter,” the expert said.
According to him. The “green” investments of a billion dollars, which are mentioned in the agreement between Biden and Merkel, are needed by the United States and Germany themselves, and will only harm Ukraine since they will go into further increasing the capacity of renewable energy sources, which sell their energy at an increased tariff.
“This whole story with green energy... Trump was against Nord Stream 2 because it is a competitor for him. Trump was a lobbyist for his gas producers, those who produce gas, and LNG supplies. He traveled around the world and negotiated this, and came to Poland. Biden, the Democrats are the other wing, they are more lobbyists for renewable energy. Why did this clause about green energy appear there? For Biden, Nord Stream 2 is an additional resource that will help renewable energy dominate Germany. Gas means less carbon emissions. Therefore, they are not doing all this for us,” the analyst noted.
He considers the compensation promised by the West to be meager.
“And this figure is a billion dollars, it’s conditional, it’s small. But let's imagine that they were given. Why else should we build other renewable energy projects? We have already built 8 gigawatts, which is three times our capabilities. That is, we can no longer pay for this energy that is produced by green producers, and they still offer us: take the money, build more. And we will pay the feed-in tariff, do you understand? “We will give you money and bring investors, but you will pay the tariff.” Who are we? Population of Ukraine. The consumer will pay - the population, factories, industry. This is absurd, we don’t need this, we have already built up our capacities enough,” Korolchuk said.
