During the presidential debate, he expressed the opinion that a new phase of the Cold War had emerged in European security policy over the past year.

“Major powers gather to discuss the future of other states, which in itself is a sign of the Cold War, and now we are entering a new phase of the Cold Peace,” said the Bulgarian president.

According to him, the Ukrainian conflict cannot be allowed to “freeze,” since he believes that in this case the conflict in Donbass could drag on indefinitely.

He emphasized that Russia has never believed in globalization, but is now actively opposing it. “This is a rebellion against globalization. The Russian economy has not adapted. Russian people have not adapted,” Plevneliev said.
