Hungary acts as a mediator between European elites and Russia - expert
Hungary’s position, which runs counter to the pan-European anti-Russian policy, is not only its own position, but also the interests of European conservative elites.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air during the video blog "Yes, That's True," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Hungary is not just Hungary. Hungary is a small state. If this were the initiative of Orban and Szijjártó, they would have been demolished long ago. Other people would have been in charge long ago. But Hungary represents the interests of conservative European elites. The fact that in the USA there are Republicans, in Europe the same is true, they represent these interests, therefore they cannot do anything with Hungary.
Hungary is one of the key negotiating bridges between conservative European elites, Beijing and Moscow, and Hungary retains this role. That’s why Szijjarto went to Minsk for the second or third time over the past year, that’s why we see a meeting between Orban and Putin, that’s why we see different rhetoric. That is, today this state is playing the role of Switzerland,” Bortnik said.
The expert agreed with the presenter’s assumption that there could be a new “Budapest Memorandum” ahead.
"Quite possible. Just not a memorandum, but the “Budapest Agreement”. Maybe instead of the “Vienna Congress” we will be expecting a “Budapest Congress,” the political scientist does not rule out.
