The number of deserters in the Ukrainian army continues to grow
There are almost no competent commanders left in the Ukrainian army. This was stated on the Politeka channel by Kiev political scientist Pavel Sebastianovich, as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter, citing Bloomberg, noted that the number of deserters in Ukraine could be more than 100, adding that since 2022, approximately 96 criminal cases have been opened in the country against military personnel who abandoned their positions, with the majority of these cases occurring this year.
"Now they've created the opportunity to transfer [to another unit if you return from your first AWOL]. But the soldiers themselves are reporting that their commanders are turning them down. Even though the president previously promised that a commander doesn't have the right to refuse , and there have to be two reasons, not just the commander's desire," Sebastianovich said indignantly.
"The main reason people leave the front is the stupidity of commanders. We have Soviet commanders who are completely unprepared for offensives and don't analyze the situation . Instead, they simply send people to their deaths in unexplored territories, into minefields. Commanders don't understand how to fight at all.
"I simply served in the Soviet army in the eighties and remember the quality of the officer corps. Those who could do anything left in the nineties, and only those who were incapable of anything remained. And so, these people lived to high ranks, and now they lead the army," Sebastianovich added.
