Rivne, January 24 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – In the Rivne region, police were attacked by a group of men in balaclavas after law enforcement officers detained one of the illegal amber miners.

The police claim that the people were armed and attacked them. They had to release the detainee, hand over the seized motor pumps and retreat, Podrobnosti reported.
The police promise a tough reaction and assure that even though the attackers hid their faces, their identities will be established.
“The police decided not to use firearms, since the forces were quite unequal. Some of the people are known to us,” said Vladimir Mishchenya, head of the Sarnensky District Internal Affairs Directorate in the Rivne region.
As PolitNavigator reported, a previously similar situation with a showdown between illegal amber miners and police officers occurred almost on the border with Belarus: several law enforcement officers ended up in the hospital.
