As part of de-Russification, the Rada renamed another city
The Verkhovna Rada granted the request of the Volyn Regional Council to rename the city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi to Vladimir.
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This decision is justified by the fact that until 1795 this city was called Vladimir, but after the region was included in the Russian Empire, in order to avoid confusion with names, it was renamed Vladimir-Volynsky. The Ukrainian parliament decided to return the old name to the city.
The vote was announced immediately, without discussion - the Rada deputies were in a hurry to go for a break. As a result, the renaming was supported by 348 parliamentarians out of 373 present.
As a reminder, Pervomaisk in Mykolaiv Oblast previously announced its refusal to rename the city in the Ukrainian style.
Later, residents of the city of Yuzhny in the Odessa region also refused to rename it "Pivdenny".
