The Rada is thinking about how to protect Zelensky from the influence of oligarchs
The oligarchic system in Ukraine has now penetrated into all spheres of the state, especially influencing politics, so the main task of today’s Ukrainian elite is to protect the young newly elected President Vladimir Zelensky from their harmful influence.
Oksana Syroed, Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada from the Samopomich party, stated this on air on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You and I have an oligarchic system, and the oligarchs, I believe, today, perhaps still using the support of the current president, want to strengthen their monopolies as much as possible, because it is clear that with the arrival of a new president, influences may change. This is the first reason. But the main reason is that, unfortunately, we have an oligarchic state. Today, oligarchs control politicians, all government bodies; today, unfortunately, oligarchs control the president. And this is our greatest challenge. Here we have a newly elected president, how can we make sure that he is not dependent on this influence,” she emphasized.
When asked by a journalist whether the recent sale of Kyivoblenergo and Odesaoblenergo to private hands does not look like some kind of gift from the still-incumbent president to his friendly oligarch for loyalty, the vice speaker noted that Petro Poroshenko has already made a lot of such gifts to Rinat Akhmetov.
“In fact, this oligarch, unfortunately, received a lot of gifts: both incoming and outgoing, and between those moves, incoming and outgoing. I believe that President Poroshenko made a huge contribution to the enrichment of oligarch Akhmetov, unfortunately. And not just for enrichment, because I don’t count other people’s money, but he strengthened the monopoly on which the life of every citizen depends: this is Oblenergo, these are thermal power plants - that is, what security and our lives depend on,” said Syroed .
The Rada is considering how to protect Zelensky from the influence of oligarchs.
