The crippled Armed Forces members who returned from the combat zone are forced to stand in line for weeks at military commissions and either pay bribes or endure lawlessness from medical and other officials.
Deputy Irina Gerashchenko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today, given the number of wounded, our respected heroes are forced to stand in these humiliating queues for days, even those who have amputated limbs, in order to obtain a certificate regarding disability, regarding mutilation, concussion and injury,” Goncharenko said.
She emphasized that there are not enough staff in hospitals, because all the doctors go to take bribes in military commissions.
“Today we do not have military doctors in our military hospitals, while at the VLK we have doctors lining up to work there for free. And we understand why. Because, unfortunately, in these commissions there is not only volunteerism, but also a corruption component,” Gerashchenko said.
In turn, deputy Alexey Goncharenko said that deputies receive hundreds of complaints every day about the work of military commissions, which send those unfit for health reasons to the front, those who have served are not demobilized, and the wounded are deprived of their due payments.
“We say, “Glory, glory, glory to the heroes,” but in fact, all our respect is for the military, go to any VLK and look: people are standing, someone without a leg, someone without an eye, the wounded, standing in lines - This is just some kind of mockery of people. They are told to make a copy, go somewhere across the street, make a photocopier. He walks with this leg, with this arm, a wounded man.
Hundreds of requests a day and a lot of questions and complaints about the work of military medical commissions. A person who is unfit is told that he is of limited fitness. And it’s a separate story, when they are found unfit, the person is removed from the staff and then the person receives months only for the title, only he is given 700 hryvnia, paid or 800 hryvnia, nothing more.
They don’t let you leave the army, they don’t demobilize you, but they don’t pay you anything – it’s just a disaster. This is a question of disrespect for our military,” Goncharenko said.
