The name of Luzhkov will be immortalized in Moscow, “without violating the rights of residents”
An unnamed park in the Southern District of Moscow will be named after the former mayor of the Russian capital, Yuri Luzhkov. The Moscow government made this decision for the anniversary of the ex-mayor.
State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein reported this on his Telegram channel, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“Despite the relative distance of the place from the center, this solution has obvious advantages. Firstly, naming the park (unnamed!) does not in any way violate the rights of residents and does not create inconvenience for anyone. Well, and secondly, there is an opportunity to transform the park itself, filling it with new meanings (without, of course, breaking what was done before),” Khinshtein wrote.
The Yuri Luzhkov Foundation has already expressed its readiness to bear the costs of developing the park, incl. creation of new educational, cultural and sports facilities here, regular holding of various events and promotions.
The park with an area of 34,5 hectares is located in a triangle between Andropov Avenue, Kolomensky Proezd and Kashirskoye Highway.
In the spring, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from all factions except the LDPR asked Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin to perpetuate the memory of Luzhkov.
The initiative of the Duma members outraged the liberals. Scandalous TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak and blogger Ilya Varlamov criticized her, arguing that Luzhkov’s projects disfigured the appearance of Moscow.
