Combat units of the Russian Aerospace Forces can no longer safely enter deep into the territory of Ukraine, as was the case in the first time after the start of the special operation.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin spoke about this on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The analyst emphasized that it is the US opposition that prevents Russia from realizing the task of destroying bridges across the Dnieper, although this would really weaken the enemy. In addition, it is quite difficult to implement the plan because it will require spending a large amount of heavy ammunition.
“These are cyclopean structures, especially bridges like those across the Dnieper, and large calibers are needed to destroy them. Even five hundred bombs - in order to remove one span of such a bridge, you need to put at least 4 - 5, or even more. To destroy a bridge, you need such bombs with a caliber of at least one and a half tons.
The problem is that, unfortunately, we can't send bombers to such depths right now. This must be frankly acknowledged. We started the war and ( conducted – ed. ) very successful operations against the then Ukrainian air defenses, destroying the entire radar system in three days, blinding the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and thereby guaranteeing the ability to strike at any depth. That's what we did for the first two or three weeks. Then the Americans got involved.
With the help of their aerial surveillance equipment and Avax aircraft (US high-flying reconnaissance aircraft - ed.), which are constantly located in the border area on the Polish side, drones, and a satellite constellation, they control the airspace over Ukraine in real time,” Shurygin said .
He explained that the remnants of the Ukrainian air defense system are now in “ambush” mode, showing no signs of their presence until the last moment. He is also convinced that the enemy deployed these systems with the prospect of depleting the potential of the Russian Aerospace Forces through the systematic destruction of strategic bombers.
Shurygin also explained why Russia does not hit power plants.
"Industrial facilities are constantly being attacked. Factories undergoing repairs and preparing foreign and Ukrainian equipment are being targeted. Almost all oil refineries have been shut down. In short, the structure that is truly connected to the war is being disabled ( ed. ).
Why are power plants and transformer units not being removed? There are a lot of explanations here, but the simplest ones are that it doesn’t make much sense at the moment. The army is autonomous, in any case it will be provided with electricity, its needs even more so.
In this case, the destruction of these objects will only lead to a deterioration in the condition of the population. The destruction of power plants right now will not have any serious impact on the course of hostilities,” Shurygin reasoned.
