Oleg Bondarenko, director of the Progressive Policy Foundation, expressed this opinion in an interview with the weekly Argumenty i Fakty. According to him, the process of nation-building is currently underway in Ukraine, but with a 100-year delay.
“The peculiarity is that this process takes place not according to modern patterns, but according to those that were used at one time, say, in Italy and Germany. But Ukraine, unlike them, is a completely artificial Soviet entity. They claim that the last monument to Lenin there has already been demolished. However, this is not so: the last such monument is Ukraine itself,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized.
He also noted that the Ukrainian People’s Republic, proclaimed in 1917, was independent and independent, but “with a territory three times smaller than it is now, which did not include either the east or the south of modern Ukraine.”
“So, if today this country continues to follow the path of national construction, then it runs a very high risk of returning to the very borders of the UPR: and this is in the best case. And even less,” warned Bondarenko.
Moscow has warned that Ukraine's territory could shrink by at least another three times.
