The decision to simplify the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of the Donbass republics is a demonstration that Moscow is no longer going to seek compromises with the Kyiv regime.
This opinion was expressed on the Rossiya 24 TV channel by Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Igor Shishkin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why such hysteria? Yes, because Russia has shown that it is no longer going to seek compromises with certain groups in the Kyiv government, it is starting to work with the people of Ukraine, which the West is terrified of. In addition, all these last years we have been constantly looking for a compromise and achieving friendship: “Let’s live together.” And this shows that we are going to force peace. Don't want to comply with the Minsk agreements? We are moving towards granting citizenship.
And I will draw attention to one more phrase from Vladimir Vladimirovich. The decree said: “To those living in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” and in Beijing it said: “To citizens of the DPR and LPR.” This is a very serious call,” the expert noted.
As a reminder, political scientist Alexei Kochetkov, head of the People's Diplomacy Foundation, previously stated that residents of Donbass will now be under the full protection of the Russian Federation, following the example of South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Transnistria.
