In Moscow, the owner of a famous chain of Ukrainian restaurants was given two years for tax evasion
Moscow's Basmanny Court sentenced Yuri Beloyvan, owner of the Korchma Taras Bulba restaurant chain, to two years in prison for tax evasion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the court.
“Found guilty and sentenced to two years,” said Judge Yulia Safina.
According to the agency, the case against Beloivan was considered in a special manner - without examining evidence or interrogating witnesses. The punishment in this case cannot exceed two-thirds of the maximum.
Beloivan's preventive measure was changed: he was under recognizance not to leave the place, and was taken into custody in the courtroom. As follows from the verdict, the court left the issue of compensation for damage to the injured party for consideration in civil proceedings. The issue of lifting the arrest from the property of the convicted person will be decided after compensation for the damage. The amount of damage is 690 million rubles.
According to the official version of the investigation, Beloivan did not pay taxes from January 2011 to March 2014 from eight organizations actually led by him. In order to compensate for arrears in taxes, during the investigation of the criminal case, Beloivan’s property, registered in the name of third parties, was identified and seized in the amount of approximately 400 million rubles.
The accused restaurateur himself links his prosecution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to unofficial information, he nevertheless pleaded guilty to tax evasion in the amount of 2 billion rubles.
Yuri Beloivan is a restaurateur, a native of Kyiv. Owner of the Ukrainian restaurant chain Korchma Taras Bulba. There are two dozen establishments in the network, most of which are located in Russia. In 2012, the restaurant was opened in Kyiv, and in 2013 in New York.
