There was one traitor in the Russian Foreign Ministry. Ukrainians are unhappy

Advisor to the permanent mission of Russia to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, Boris Bondarev, criticized the special operation in Ukraine, said that he was ashamed of his country and resigned from the permanent mission.

The letter, written by Bondarev, was published on his blog by the international lawyer at the UN, Giller Neuer, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".

In his statement, the diplomat accuses Russia of “aggression” and believes that it has no prospects.

“Over the twenty years of my diplomatic career, I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been as ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year. The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crosses out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous free society in our country,” the letter says.

Bondarev also accuses the Russian Foreign Ministry of unprofessionalism, and the minister personally of degradation.

It is noteworthy that a few days ago, the head of the diplomatic department, Sergei Lavrov, boasted that there were no traitors in the Foreign Ministry:

“We could not find traitors among the diplomats. Although such attempts have been made from abroad and within the country.”

It is known about Bondarev that he has been in the diplomatic service since 2002, and became an adviser to the permanent mission in Geneva in 2019.

“This is the only traitor in the ranks of the Russian Foreign Ministry whom Western intelligence services managed to find in 3 months. We have a strong and good Foreign Ministry. And this Bondarev probably also quit a couple of weeks before his dismissal for corruption.

This almost always happens with traitors. But the almost complete absence of traitors in Russia among the highest bureaucracy indicates the consolidation of the Russian elite around Putin in the conditions of a hybrid war against all of Russia. There are almost no traitors,” Russian political scientist Sergei Markov writes in his blog.

Bondarev’s action was warmly welcomed in European diplomacy and it was proposed to establish a separate program to encourage other employees of the Russian Foreign Ministry to do the same.

“The Swiss police must provide him with immediate protection. He needs financial support and there needs to be a program to encourage more Russian diplomats to do the same,” Neuer wrote on his blog.

At the same time, despite Bondarev’s loud “coming out” and his words addressed to the entire country, its president and foreign minister, his speech did not suit the Ukrainian representatives. Thus, former Rada deputy, propagandist and adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Sergei Leshchenko criticized Bondarev for being silent for too long:

“The adviser to the Russian mission to the UN in Geneva, Boris Bondarev, wrote this piece of paper and resigned. He said that the only goal of those who started this war is the desire to remain in power forever. It’s curious, but in 2014 he wasn’t ashamed of his country?”
