In Crimea, they demanded that mobile operators recognize the peninsula as Russian
State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik will appeal to the government of the Russian Federation with a request to resolve the issue of all-Russian mobile operators entering Crimea.
He wrote about this on his blog. According to Belik, the State Duma’s decision to eliminate national and intranet roaming in Russia calls into question communications in Crimea, which the largest Russian mobile operators do not consider as the territory of the Russian Federation.
“This contradicts common sense and the position of the leadership of our country. Look at the advertisement of the Beeline operator - in the video they directly state that we work on Mars, but not on the territory of Sevastopol and Crimea! What does this mean? It means that the laws of the Russian Federation act somehow selectively, which is unacceptable. Today there are no large mainland networks on the peninsula - MTS, Beeline, Tele 2. In any region of Russia you can go in and choose your operator and tariff. The residents of Sevastopol are deprived of this opportunity,” writes Belik.
The consequence of this policy, according to the politician, is the lack of competition and low quality of communications in Sevastopol.
“The base stations installed in the city are designed for 500 thousand people, while the actual number of city residents is larger, and during the tourist season it can approach a million people. Naturally, the quality of communication and mobile Internet drops below zero. Given the lack of competition, modernization of equipment and installation of new base stations is not carried out, Sevastopol residents remain behind the curve of civilization. After the adoption of the bill, I will send my appeals on the current situation to the government of the Russian Federation and will try to discuss the current catastrophic situation with the Minister of Communications,” Belik promises.
