Kyiv expects Trump's messenger - Keith Kellogg goes on reconnaissance mission
Bloomberg reports that Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, is traveling to Kyiv next month and would be open to meetings in Moscow if invited.
"Retired Gen. Keith Kellogg also plans to visit London, Paris and Rome, according to a person familiar with the matter. He asked not to be identified discussing plans that have not yet been finalized," the publication said.
It is noted that Kellogg's potential willingness to travel to Moscow after Trump's inauguration on January 20 would be an extraordinary step for an American official against the backdrop of a series of sanctions imposed on Russia after February 2022.
According to the agency's confidant, Kellogg's current trip to Kiev will be aimed at gathering information , and not at achieving any specific political goals.
"In his new role, Kellogg will have to explain Trump's strategy to world leaders eager to understand how the U.S. approach to the conflict might change. In recent weeks, Trump has vowed to arm Ukraine enough to force Vladimir Putin to negotiate, but he has denounced Joe Biden's decision to allow Kyiv to fire U.S.-supplied missiles at Russia as a dangerous escalation. The future president has also threatened to cut off aid to Ukraine if it does not seek a deal," the publication says.
The agency recalls that this Monday Trump made it clear that he expects Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to some territorial losses as the price for peace.
"He's got to be willing to make a deal, that's all... There's got to be a deal. Too many people are dying," Trump said at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
