People in Kyiv are alarmed: “Old Europe” wants to restore relations with the Russian Federation
While the West dangles the carrot of NATO and EU membership to Ukraine, the so-called old Europe wants to restore economic relations with Russia.
Kyiv political scientist Andrey Zolotarev stated this in an interview with journalist Alexander Shelest, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Zolotarev, behind the beautiful words about democratic values lies the desire to reduce fuel prices and bills for Europeans.
“While old Europe, while saying that Ukraine will be in NATO, but not now, is nevertheless thinking about how to restore economic cooperation with Russia to some extent.
There is what is a smokescreen, talk about democracy, about values, and there is uranium for nuclear power plants, prices at gas stations for Bundes-burgers and numbers in payment bills. This is the dominant and determining factor. Here [in the prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the EU] there is no progress yet, so far, rather, this is a carrot for Ukraine,” Zolotarev said.
