The attitude of the Ukrainian military leadership towards “free” American assistance with paid services has led to the fact that half of the Hummers are dead weight, and some of the Raven drones fall right on the “occupied” territory.
Ukrainian military expert Taras Chmut spoke about this on air on the Militarist Portal YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Humvee is a great car. In the summer of 36, the 2015th Marine Brigade received several dozen vehicles, if I’m not mistaken, about 30 or 40. They entered the air assault battalion, but were also used in different units and in the Marine Corps command later. The car performed super well. But the question immediately arose with their repair, with spare parts, with keys, with tires, with personnel training,” the expert said.
According to him, the situation is very sad, since the United States has a very “specific approach” - when transferring equipment, the Americans offer a certain package of services.
“For example, we give you used Hummers, they are free for you as part of the assistance package, but we can offer you our service and technical support. It will cost this much. We can offer you a package of spare parts, tires, all consumable spare parts, it will cost this much, we can create a maintenance and repair service for you and train personnel, it will cost this much, a training class for drivers and repairmen, this is such a package. Various options.
Unfortunately, for some reason we always try to follow the cheapest and simplest path, that we will figure it out ourselves, we will somehow repair it ourselves, we will somehow do it ourselves. This leads to the fact that at some point in that very 36th brigade, more than half of the Hummers were laid up. With the help of volunteers, with the help of drivers, they somehow assembled one that works from two or three. They brought components and parts from America, simply removed them using the method of “scientific poking” and selection, selected some parts,” Chmut said.
He added that the situation with American Raven drones is no better than with Humvees.
“These are new drones that were produced specifically for Ukraine, version 2003-2005, but all serial numbers, release date, everything is for Ukraine. The Americans gave them so that we could master them, understand what, so that we could further build on this story.
What happened in fact: Ukraine received platoon-company level drones, issued them for brigade reconnaissance, some of the military went to the United States, learned, came to Ukraine, some quit, some did not receive them, some were received by those who did not study in the States.
It’s just that Muzhenko (Viktor Muzhenko – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019 – ed.) described it, some went to mechanized brigades, one complex to the 36th Marines. And it turned out that those who received American certificates did not receive the complexes. And those who studied in Ukraine in Zhitomir, at the Korolev Institute, received complexes. Or even, I remember, there were guys from some brigades who did not undergo training, but received the complex,” the expert explained.
“They confused the enemy” - they confused themselves in such a way that part of the complex immediately began to fall in the occupied territory, some of them were shot down there. And information immediately came out that the Americans gave us outdated systems, they were bad and did not meet modern requirements. In fact, the complex is good, military, for its niche and its tasks,” concluded Chmut.
